The Country’s Apathy towards its Immigrants
**** This post was contributed by em. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us Em. *******
Hi,
Today I am writing because I feel very low and lost. I had tried coming up and working with representatives on some sort of arrangement to expedite Immigration to US. However, nothing is paning out right.
Maybe today I’d like to say Im very frustrated as much as all of you are. I am getting tired of wanting to finish my Green Card Process and not being able to. I understand that alot of you may be in this boat longer than I have. However, I cant help but think that maybe America doesnt really deserve people who can work hard continuously, pay their bills and taxes, and be self-sufficient.
They would rather have the burdens of society and those who dont pay enough taxes.
Today, I openly declare that I may have issue with all this.(not that I have not previously) My shrink thinks I have emotional trauma and is causing anxiety.
I know I sound so very american. But I am doing this on purpose. I am making sure that these people know the emotional trauma America has cost to millions of people. I am not alone wondering at night if my I-140 will be processed tomorrow or if it will be approved even though its all legal and good. So I may have given a name to it but I know each and everyone of you lives through the same ordeal as I do.
I am not the first person to say give us amnesty too, like what you give to people who walk on the road to protest while we hold our head down and work as hard as we can to maintain our legal status.
I am not the first person to say help me build my business and grow as much as every body is given an opportunity.
I am not the first person to say help me help others by taking a job on the side that serves the common good.
I am not alone when I say help me unite my family. My old parent who keeps on waiting for me to come back but knows I am bound here to make my future for now.
I am not alone when I say I am tired of living in limbo.
What do we really not go through.
American Immigration is a circus of some sort when we are talking about the Legal Immigration Policies.
How so?
H-1b, yes we come here and file an H-1b is it necessary to make us go through the hoops of lottery. We are not playing a game here. We do not want to gamble with our lives. Why don’t they make it first come first served with a maximum per company depending on the number of employees they have. For every 50 employees you may sponsor 1 more with a maximum number per company. simple and easy. yes pick a number out off the empty giant heads but get it over with.
Then process it the same month, dont wait until October. Are they playing with our minds? They expect us to maintain legal status and yet you refuse to give us the same. You have gone completely nuts.
Am I the only one feeling a little angry here! And by the way, they need not fool themselves for 1 second that if they approve an H-1b that this person wont file for a green card!
If they can approve the H-1b there are very minimal grounds on why they cant approve us for Green Cards.
- We are educated
- We already got through the system, do you really think you’d let us in if we are a threat to society? They like us Indians because we dont bother them, we dont fight back, we dont answer back and they take advantage of us!
- We are well qualified, just make sure we are really needed.
- As for unavailability of Visa, if they dont need us dont import any more. Close the borders. Anyone in is in and anyone who didnt make it isnt. Lets see how long they stay as the innovators. Yes all of us are not the greatest innovators but alot of us are smart. We stay above credit crunches, make the economy gainful by making purchases and are not a burden to the government.
Now let us prove to them that for a continuous 5 years we have been gainfully employed and paid our taxes and made a minimum wage for an H-1 and let us get on with life without them dogging on our tail.
As for the Green Card! The great Green Card once the dream is now the NIGHTMARE!
Filling for labor for 5 years. Does it really take that long to do anything? Its a very sad case. Stop taking applications if they cant fulfill them.
I-140, shame us into not taking a higher job position a higher pay rate because that to them is a breach of law.
Maybe we can be their brown slaves forever.
Then take 5 years again to do this while our PD will retrogress and ask us questions to which answers we provided you to 5 years ago. Make sure we have our whole company in our cellphone and address book just in case they have any questions for us. We have no other work really! Please continually hound us and let Americans think we are unprogressive stuck to one job not knowing why!
EAD. If you cant let us file AOS let us apply for EAD until visa numbers are available. Its not our fault its not available or you didnt work fast enough to capture the 200K plus lost visas!
Let us breathe easier a little. Treat us Humanely!
We have feelings too! We are tired! We want our lives back!
AOS - the famous AOS. Take our application and keep it in the attic so we can be promoted. So we can let our families have a better life.
After 10 years, when you are ready to process it dont worry we will still answer your questions as dilligently as we do now.
The country’s Apathy!
They rob us financially, mentally, emotionally, physically! By the time they give us anything we are emotional wells empty of water and will work without creativity and as robotic as they need us to be. Is this what they really hoped from us?
Am I the only one who has come to the end of line. How do we all maintain silence and patience. How do you not feel to plead to have your lives back. How do you feel satisfied with yourselves when you go to sleep at night.
Yes, I know alot will come back and comment and say if you cant wait go back home. You are the same people who went through the pain of reading this. I wonder why!
And, I am sure its easy to dismiss what you dont have to go through. We toil hard and expect reciprocation. We are not expecting anything for free!
And as for you who feel pity, I dont want pity I want to know if you feel the same too and if so why has anyone not done anything yet. And if there is anything to be done then what is it?
And as for you the innocent reader who has no clue to what Im saying, I offer my thanks to you.

I understand what you are going through…I guess people from the East were raised to be more patient and enduring, that is why we remember to stay silent and take all the beating. I myself am guilty of this. I am only one voice just like you…maybe if we all band together our voices will be heard. I wish you peace.

em - I’m with you. This pretty much sums up the situation, yet I think it’s still worth the pain… I’ve lost count the number of times I’ve doubted that
(double that for my wife; being a prisoner of I140 / I485 isn’t easy for anyone). Whatever stage you’re at, best of luck to you. Hope everything works out!
