Backlogs for I-140 have remained close to the 140,000 mark for over a year. Recently, it has reduced to a few thousand under 140,000, providing some hope for us. But the EAD renewal application surge and the fact that all of these EAD’s need to be adjudicated within 120 days, is likely to put more pressure on the USCIS and hence I-140 and other application processing is likely to remain dead-slow.

As reflected by the graphs below, the backlog for most applications has reduced only by a small margin. These statistics are based on numbers from the http://www.uscis.gov site.

I-140: Given the fact that the USCIS receives around 40,000 applications every month, and the fact that they are processing only around that many each month, it is unlikely that the backlog will reduce significantly over the next few months.

I-485 backlog remains more than 700,000 for over a year now.

I-765 (EAD): Notice the surge in July and August 2008. This is likely to mess things up for other applications.

Naturalization N-400 is the only category that shows significant improvement in 2008.
